This past summer, Accessibility NYC hosted a meetup entitled “My Story, Aphasia, the NYC Outdoors Disability Group, and the No Barriers Summit.” Presenter Avi Golden, a practicing EMT, described how he went from being a Critical Care and Flight Paramedic with North Shore LIJ (Northwell) EMS and NY Presbyterian EMS before having a stroke to public speaker after the stroke. He shared stories of his travels speaking across the globe about what it’s like living with Aphasia, as well as his experiences participating in adaptive sports via a NYC meetup that he organizes, NYC Outdoors Disability, as well as the adaptive sports and technology conference, No Barriers Summit.
